Our Surrey MYPs attended the British Youth Council conference to exchange ideas with other MYPs from across the country and take part in the ‘Big Vote’ – a way to shape the manifesto for the UK Youth Parliament.
The motions debated by MYP’s on behalf of the young people in their constituencies will shape the Make Your Mark campaign for this year and will eventually lead to the Youth Cabinet and Youth Councils across the boroughs of Surrey delivering innovative projects based on the feedback of young people.
Surrey MYP Rory Moore said:
“The residential included activities and workshops which helped me to improve skills such as teamwork and communication – we had ‘regional’ sessions where I met all other MYPs from across the South East. This allowed me to build a network and to establish connections with other MYPs which will be useful for future campaigns. It also gave me the opportunity to learn about how other youth councils operate, and this means I will be able to feedback to the Surrey Youth Cabinet with ‘best practice’ from elsewhere top improve our structure and work.”
